MESSY CHURCH WALTHAM
Messy Church is a national initiative. It began in April 2004 in an Anglican church near Portsmouth. It is a church for families who perhaps find traditional church not to their taste and a typical session would include craft activities, a short celebration and a meal (we have cake and coffee so as not to clash with Sunday lunch).
The aims are:
to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to worship together
to help people of all ages feel they belong in church and to each other
to help people have fun and be creative together
to introduce Jesus through hospitality, friendship, stories and worship
Every Messy Church is unique and responsive both to God’s call to serve its own surrounding community and to the character of the existing church community there.
We are committing ourselves to bring this new ‘flavour’ of church to this area and do hope that you will give it a try. Demand for creative pursuits is high locally and this is a way to combine the creative talents with which we have been blessed (everyone has some!) together with learning about our Creator God in a participative and interesting way.
On the 4th Sunday of each month, we hold Messy Church at Waltham church. Starting at 10.20am, it generally finishes around 11.30ish when we all enjoy drinks (including freshly brewed coffee) and homemade cake!
We run Holiday clubs in Scalford and Waltham for children upto 11 years during the school summer holidays. Older children are encouraged to come and help out. Parents, carers and members of the communities are also welcome to help if they would like to. We have great fun and the sessions are filled with crafts, games, activities and music - all around a Bible theme.
